Yale Center for British Art reopening in September 2016 Michael MarslandYale University Creativity and imagination abound In Greater New Haven the arts are an integral part of daily life. Certainly we have outstanding musical performances a theater community with an established past and vibrant future not to mention the world-class museums but more impor- tantly is the art that surrounds you during everyday activities. Anywhere you go you will see public art exquisite architecture and historic monuments. On Chapel Street in New Haven you will stand in awe of Varinis Square with Four Circles or for the full effect run up and down the alley. In the summer you can find a concert on a town green almost every night of the week. Some of the highlights of the Arts community include the New Haven Symphony Orchestra Irelands Great Hunger Museum the International Festival of Arts Ideas City-wide Open Studios Yale University Art Gallery Yale Peabody Museum Knights of Columbus Museum Shubert Theatre Yale Rep and Long Wharf Theatre. With the eagerly awaited reopening of the Yale Center for British Art in the spring the renowned collection of British art largely the gift of Paul Mellon Yale College Class of 1929 will be completely reinstalled in the stunning sky-lit galler- ies on the fourth floor and in the beautiful galleries on the second floor. In the fourth quarter of 2016 the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library will also debut its upgrades.
